Career Development - Taking Control

This course is designed to support recruitment and retention efforts within the organization.  It helps participants achieve career satisfaction and a higher quality of work life.  It takes participants through a comprehensive self-assessment so that they can clarify strengths, areas for improvement, values, interests and skills.  Participants evaluate their present job situations in terms of the assessment.  They compare their qualifications to the career goals they have set for themselves. They are encouraged to examine upward and lateral moves as well as different options within the organization.  It helps them set realistic goals and provides an action plan to achieve them.

Participants will learn:

  • To identify and inventory individual values, needs, priorities, interests, strengths and areas for improvement
  • To analyze existing skills, knowledge and abilities which need development and are readily transferable
  • To assess present work situations in terms of need satisfaction and skills
  • To identify other areas within the organization which may provide future opportunities
  • To understand the developmental advantages of lateral moves and job enrichment
  • To build a support system of advisors, mentors, and role models
  • To develop realistic goals for skill development and career moves
  • To identify and overcome barriers to goal attainment
  • To understand the benefits and risks associated with each goal
  • To develop a specific action plan with time frames and objectives and create a system for measuring progress and reinforcing success.

Methodology:  This program utilizes video, group discussion, structured exercises, practice exercises, self-assessment and a question and answer segment.

Program Length:  One 8-hour session
